The song and accompanying video is just over a minute long, but the short clip is full of charm, wit and gaming references. Responsible for this is Tenacious D, the rock band of comedian, actor and (non-)gamer Jack Black.

Known for roles like High Fidelity, School of Rock and many more, Jack Black has long made one wonder if the 53-year-old is a singing actor or acting singer. But that doesn’t really matter anyway, because fun is the most important thing for the native Californian.

Now he has released a new Tenacious D song with his partner Kyle Gass and it is simply titled “Video Games”. In it he explains right at the beginning that he actually no longer plays video games. A “but” follows in the form of the song, as Black says he makes an exception for some titles like Fallout 4, God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2.

The song is a witty declaration of love for gaming, with Black ultimately summing up, “I guess I still play f***ing video games.” (By the way, the full translation of the lyrics can be found below.)

The video is particularly worth seeing, in which there are various other allusions to well-known games, including Sonic, Mario, Zelda, Tomb Raider, Minecraft and many more. YouTuber Chris O’Neill aka Oney is responsible for the video itself.

The lyrics (translation via DeepL):

I don’t play video games anymore, I never play video games
Except for a bit of God of War, I never play video games
Maybe a little bit of Fallout 4 every now and then
But that’s okay, not now, I’ve got things to do

‘Cause I don’t play video games anymore, never play video games
But Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s not a game
It’s an incredible journey through ancient American history
Fight for your life and for your family
Try to live your days with honor and integrity
This is not a game, this is an adult thing
This isn’t a play at all, this is like fucking Shakespeare

You know I don’t play video games anymore, a tiny bit of video games
I guess I still play fucking video games, yay
