Catherine Deneuve was the guest of honor at Daily Wednesday October 4. The French cinema star was present on the Yann Barthès set to promote his latest film, Bernadette, in which she lends her features to the former French first lady. The actress did not at all appreciate a column by Jean-Michel Apathy on Jacques Chirac’s driver and did not hesitate to let the person concerned know this. “I don’t understand why you talk more about Chirac’s driver. Less about Bernadette Chirac than about Jacques Chirac’s driver. What amuses you so much in this story?” she exclaimed, causing a little discomfort on set, which Yann Barthès tried to quickly dissipate.

Catherine Deneuve had sabotaged Jean-Michel Apathy’s column

The political journalist, who joined the TMC talk show since the start of the school year, tried to defend his column in the face of a particularly recalcitrant guest, who refused to allow him to offer her the work he was talking about. “It showed, this story (…), how the system of power was a system imagined by Jacques Chirac, built by Jacques Chirac, very unhealthy. And which did not correspond to what we have the right to expect in a democracy”, he explained. Arguments which were far from reaching their target. “I think it could have been said by others rather than the driver,” concluded Catherine Deneuve, not very receptive. This Friday, October 6, Jean-Michel Apathy took advantage of his assessment of the week to settle scores gently with Catherine Deneuve.

The journalist gently scratches the guest of Yann Barthès

“We are talking about the state visit that Queen Catherine paid to Daily”, he began his column, recalling that she was there to discuss her latest film. “On the set, a man scratched his ears while telling him about an old story by Jacques Chirac. She answered him with class…”, he continued, returning of course to his column. Yann Barthès pointed out, amused, that it was the journalist, the boss, to which he acquiesced. “Well done ma’am, come back whenever you want”, he concluded this bittersweet column.
