A Wall Street giant is said to have benefited from human trafficking by sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In this context, a connection to Tesla millionaire Elon Musk is also being identified.
The Epstein affair made waves around the world, also because the now deceased sex offender was known to celebrities such as ex-Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, billionaire Bill Gates and Britain’s Prince Andrew.
Now another high-profile entrepreneur is being targeted in the investigations into the case: Tesla boss Elon Musk was subpoenaed in connection with a lawsuit against the US investment bank JP Morgan Chase and asked to disclose documents.
Bank allegedly profited from Epstein’s crimes
The Virgin Islands have accused JP Morgan of ignoring evidence of Epstein’s abuse of women on his private island of Little St. James. The lawsuit alleges that “human trafficking was the primary business of Epstein’s accounts at JPMorgan.” Epstein was a key client in JP Morgan’s private banking business until 2013.
Musk received the subpoena on April 28, according to a Monday filing with the US District Court in Manhattan. This was reported by several media unanimously.
The subpoena states that Musk may have been referred to JP Morgan by Epstein. No further justification for the interest in the documents was given. The bank had stated that it could not be held liable for third-party relationships with Epstein.
Epstein moved in prominent circles
The subpoena requested all communications between the entrepreneur and JP Morgan regarding Epstein, as well as communications between Musk and Epstein. Musk has not yet responded to a Reuters request for comment.
Epstein, who presented himself to the public as a brilliant financier, had access to the highest circles of society in the USA – including US Presidents. Even after Epstein was registered as a sex offender in 2008, it did not sever his ties to those with power in business and finance. Epstein was found dead in his prison cell after his sentencing in 2019. A coroner ruled that his death was a suicide.
