Joe Biden highlighted his talent and versatility in music, as well as his personal strength after the announcement of his death.
The president of the United States, Joe Biden , celebrated the life and career of the rock star with a messageTina Turner, passed away this Wednesday at the age of 83, while giving his condolences to his relatives.
“In addition to being a unique talent in her generation who changed American music forever, Tina’s personal strength was extraordinary,” said the Democratic president, who recalled the abuse the artist suffered in her first marriage .
Biden highlighted in his message, shared by the White House, that Turner was the only woman to win Grammy Awards in the pop, rock and R&B categories, demonstrating her “versatility”. The singer earned 12 Grammy Awards throughout her career.
“His high-octane dances were legendary,” said the president, recalling some of his hits, such as “Proud Mary,” “The Best” or “What’s Love Got to Do with It.”
“We send our love to her husband, Erwin, to the rest of the Turner family and to fans around the world who are mourning the woman who was ‘simply the best’ today,” the message concluded.
Tina Turner had retired from the world of music in 2009, at the age of 70, with a prolific career translated into more than 200 million records sold, 22 albums -12 studio, 3 live and 7 compilations-.
Since then, the interpreter has focused on her personal life, marrying in Switzerland – where she ended up being nationalized – in 2013, at the age of 73, with the German music producer Erwin Bach, 57, after 27 years of relationship.
She suffered health problems in the last decade, such as colon cancer in 2016, and underwent a kidney transplant just a year later. She passed away this Wednesday at the age of 83 at her home in Kusnacht (Switzerland).
