John Lennon, 43 years after his murder in New York

MIAMI.- On December 8, 1980, music was soaked in blood and mourning with the murder of John Lennon. That day, the founder of The Bleatles was returning with his partner, Yoko Ono, to the famous Dakota building, in front of Central Park, when Mark David Chapman, a disturbed fan of the British group, shot Lennon.

“Tell me that is not true!” Yoko Ono exclaimed, horrified, in front of the residence where she lived with the artist.

His death left a void in the music of the 20th century, since the interpreter of Imagine He became one of the most influential artists from the 60’s onwards.

John Lennon and his voice in 2023

The 43rd anniversary of the murder of John Lennon is accompanied by a musical milestone: at the end of November the Beatles’ latest single, Now and Thenbecame the British quartet’s first number one hit on the UK charts in 54 years.

Based on audio and video streams, downloads, CDs and vinyl, The Official Charts Company announced that the song rose to number one in the United Kingdom, following its release on November 2, 2023.

The song, produced thanks to Artificial Intelligence (AI), was composed by John Lennon in 1978, two years before his death, and was completed by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the two survivors of the Liverpool quartet.

With the help of AI, chords by George Harrison, who died in 2001, were also included.

This is how Now and Then became the band’s first number one on the charts since The Ballad of John and Yoko in 1969 and the group’s eighteenth song to lead the best-selling records.

Gun control

With the death of John Lennon, his widow, Yoko Ono, took advantage of the death of the legendary musician to demand greater gun control.

“The death of a loved one is an experience that leaves a strong mark,” said the artist on her Twitter account in 2020, who still lives in the Dakota building in Manhattan.

“After 40 years, Sean, Julian and I still miss him. ‘Imagine all the people living life in peace,'” he added when 40 years passed since the murder, quoting the 1971 song he co-wrote with Lennon and which became the best-selling single of the former Beatle’s solo career.

Born on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, John Winston Lennon worked on 12 record productions: Two Virgins (1968), Life with the Lions (1969), Wedding Album (1969), John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (1970), Imagine (1971), Some Time in New York City (1972), Mind Games (1973), Walls and Bridges (1974), Rock ‘n’ Roll (1975), Double Fantasy (1980), Heart Play: Unfinished Dialogue (1983) y Milk and Honey (1984).
