Joel Armia accounted for two rare cones as his Montreal Canadiens beat St. Louis Blues with 5–4 in the ice hockey league NHL. Joonas Korpisalo played a role in the Columbus Blue Jackets’ 4–3 shootout victory.

The last time Joel Armia scored two goals during a game in the NHL was February 25, 2021. Now things may have started to unravel for the 29-year-old who was voted man of the match in the home victory over St. Louis Blues.

– I didn’t play that well (before the bench called). At some point you have to look at yourself in the mirror and demand improvement, Armia stated to the press after the match.

Montreal head coach Martin St. Louis was very pleased with Armia’s change of attitude.

– We have discussed with Armia on several occasions during this season, but it is only enough for a certain length. He has to decide for himself whether he should improve, I am happy for him, comments St. Louis.

In the match, Armia accounted for the 1–1 and 4–4 receipts. Montreal’s Josh Anderson decided the game with just over eight minutes remaining when he put the home team in a 5-4 lead.

The phenomenal blue-white goaltending performances in the NHL continue. Columbus goalie Korpisalo picked up where Nashville’s Finnish goalies Juuse Saros and Kevin Lankinen left off.

As expected, the shooting-happy Carolina Hurricanes peppered endlessly, but Korpisalo saved 39 of the 42 shots. Columbus eventually won 4–3 after a penalty shootout.

Kirill Martjenko, who joined Columbus before the season, had a hat trick in the game. At the same time, the Russian became the season’s first newcomer to score three goals in one match.

In the Carolina goal was Antti Raanta, who had a significantly calmer evening as he was responsible for 15/18 saves.

Carolina’s Sebastian Aho had an assist in the match and Columbus’ Patrik Laine was successful in the shootout.

The loss was the third in a row for champion candidate Carolina. Despite this, the team is in the lead in the Metropolitan division.
