For the seventh consecutive year, Carlos Rubén Navarro from Juárez will represent Mexico in a Taekwondo World Cup, after qualifying last Sunday in the national selective that took place in the Six-Year Plan of Mexico City.

This year’s World Cup is hosted in Baku, Azerbaijan, from May 29 to June 4, and Navarro will compete in the -63 kg category.

“Today I win first place in the final evaluation where I get my ticket to the 2023 World Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan. After a very strong injury that left me out of my maximum in 2022, today I am back again and I am very happy that it will be my seventh consecutive World Championship and 14 consecutive years in the National Team. At 26 years of age, Navarro has six world championships in a row in his 14-year career, two as a junior and the most recent four in the senior category.

In November of last year, Navarro was eliminated in the round of 16 phase of the world championship that took place in Guadalajara, Jalisco. His executioner was a representative of China who was eventually crowned champion.

“I have that little thorn stuck in, I keep going, there is character and attitude. I like challenges and I like to feel adversity and we are going for that World Cup”, declared Navarro before taking part in the national team.

The first three months of 2023 served for Carlos Rubén to recover from injuries that he had been carrying since last year. Thus, in some concentrations to which he was summoned, he took the opportunity to carry out intense physical, technical, tactical and mental training.

Jorge Amaya, president of the Municipal Taekwondo League, also echoed Navarro’s qualification for the Azerbaijan World Cup.

“He will attend his seventh World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan from May 29 to June 4, Carlos Rubén is a pride from Juarez,” said Amaya.

Amaya also reported that a delegation from Juarez competed in the National Cadet Championship in the country’s capital over the weekend, where they won silver and bronze medals.

In the Under-14 and Under-15 categories, those who obtained medals were Fernanda Cruz, Alison Acosta, Paulina Beltrán, Alexis Rojas and Natalia Chávez.

“In the cadets category, good results were obtained, always thanks to the support of parents, this marks the path of athletes from Juarez,” said Amaya.
