On Tuesday, the finalists in the Vixen Awards 2022 were announced. The award ceremony will award Norway’s best influencers and social media profiles in a number of categories.

One of this year’s newcomers is 16-year-old Julie Fiala. She is nominated in the categories “Influencer of the year: Beauty” and “People’s favourite”. A jury decides the winners, with the exception of “People’s favourite”.

Last year she wasn’t even invited to Vixen. She is now nominated in two categories.

– It is completely surreal, writes Julie in an email to TV 2.

– The finest confirmation

– I did not think that I would be nominated at all. I’m a bit put off to be completely honest, but this has always been a dream, so of course I’m grateful and very happy.

She finds it particularly overwhelming to be nominated for “People’s favourite”.

– It is perhaps the best confirmation I could get that what I do pleases others, she writes.

In the category she competes against big names such as Jørgine Massa Vasstrand (Funkygine), Leah Isadora Behn, Sara Emilie Tandberg and Therese Lien.

Doubled the number of TikTok followers

Julie says that she started posting seriously on social media towards the end of 2021. In November 2022, she signed with the influencer and content agency Kontent.

Since then, she has almost doubled her number of followers on TikTok, says Matilde Bakken in Kontent. At the time of writing, she has almost 47,000 followers on Instagram and 109,000 on TikTok.

– Tired of filtered users

Julie says that she was tired of seeing filtered users and wanted to post a more unfiltered life.

– This is something I feel more and more influencers are doing, and that it is what the followers would most like to see.

She writes that she mainly posts a video every morning where she gets ready, gives make-up tips, talks about life and talks about challenges.

– Otherwise, I post other short videos that are often based on humor and friends.

Julie lives at home with her parents in Ullevål in Oslo and goes to upper secondary school.

– Why do you think people follow you?

– I think people follow me because I can say with my hand on my heart that I am 100 percent myself on social media. At the same time, I hope that I can inspire my followers and bring out some joy in everyday life.

Talks openly about height and dyslexia

When asked what she thinks about the ongoing debate about influencers and body pressure, Julie writes that she chooses to show herself exactly as she is.

– If I choose to train one day, I show it. If I choose to lie on the couch and chug a bag of Smash, I’ll show it.

She understands that many people can feel body pressure through social media.

– But I also hope that influencers can help promote a healthy body image by being unfiltered and inspiring people to have a healthy balance. For example, I talk openly about my height, problems with unclean skin and challenges around having dyslexia, she writes.

– I know that this has helped many young tall girls in particular, which makes me very happy!

Will become better at giving f…

Julie writes that she gets little hate herself, which she is very happy about.

– Do you yourself feel under pressure now that you are a more public person?

– Both yes and no. You’re probably just afraid you won’t live up to expectations, but I work on myself every day to become better at giving a little more f… in what others think and believe about me.

When asked which influencers she looks up to, Julie replies that she is inspired by her colleagues in Kontent, but she singles out Vegard Harm as a role model.

– I love his demeanor and self-irony!

– I feel lucky

Julie says that the last year has been the best so far.

– I have been given so many opportunities and met so many inspiring people. I have learned an incredible amount and feel very lucky to be able to do what I love most, sharing my life with my followers.

– What would it mean to you to win a Vixen Award?

– If I were to be lucky enough to win a prize, it would of course mean a LOT! But I’m just really happy that people nominated me and took the time to vote for me.

The award will take place on 27 January at Gamle Logen in Oslo.
