Juliens Auctions to sell iconic Princess Diana dresses

BEVERLY HILLS.- A midnight blue tulle dress and another flamenco-style lace model lead the most auction of objects of the Princess Diana since 1997, when she put dozens of her suits on sale for charity. Nearly fifty pieces, including dresses, shoes, handbags, hats and memorabilia of the charismatic Lady Di, They make up the collection that Julien’s Auctions will sell under hammer on June 27.

The exhibition titled The elegance of Princess Diana and a royal collection brings together some of the designers favorites of the late Princess of Wales, such as Victor Edelstein, Murray Arbeid and Catherine Walker.

Las jewelry from the collection are the blue ball gown with diamond stars, designed by Arbeid, and which Diana wore in 1986 to the premiere of The Phantom of the Opera, in London, and the magenta lace dress, created by Edelstein, which he wore on two occasions.

Both pieces are valued between $200,000 and $400,000.

The auction

“We are celebrating the elegance of Princess Diana,” said Gabriela Schwartz, director of fashion and talent relations at Julien’s Auctions.

“We have some really exceptional pieces (…), really iconic pieces that Diana wore with great pride and that are really emblematic of her style,” he added.

Schwartz noted the public’s fascination with the princess, who died in a car accident in Paris in 1997, especially when it comes to fashion, noting that one of her dresses fetched a record $1.14 million in another auction at the auction house in December.

“She really enjoyed fashion. She had an intuition for fashion. She was very intentional and deliberate with the pieces and designers she wore,” he added. “She is the princess of the people and also a fashion designer’s dream.”

The collection, which was shown in several countries before landing in Beverly Hills, includes shoes by Salvatore Ferragamo, Kurt Geiger and Rayne, as well as letters in Diana’s own handwriting.

Available for bidding on Julien’s Auctions’ website, the auction also features items belonging to other members of the British royal family.
