Piracy is everywhere, including in smartphone app stores. In the Play Store, for example, a popular pirated IPTV app caught the attention of a Spanish court to the point of issuing a court order for Google. The application in question is IPTV Smarter Prowhich offers access to several cable TV channels, some of which even broadcast LaLiga games.

LaLiga denounces pirated IPTV app

LaLiga, the first division of professional football in Spain, has been fighting an uphill battle against pirated IPTV services that have been making clandestine broadcasts of their games over the internet. This time, the complaint reached the Spanish Court, which in turn issued an order to Google to remove the IPTV Smarter Pro application from the Play Store, application store for Android devices.

In a statement, LaLiga also said:

“It is important to emphasize that all these player applications allow the consumption of an innumerable amount of audiovisual content such as games, movies, TV series, etc”

LaLiga’s main targets are the most popular IPTV websites and apps on the internet, which end up having the flexibility to deal with pirated countermeasures more effectively. In a press release at the end of December, LaLiga announced the outcome of the lawsuit filed against the Smarters Pro IPTV app:

On December 22, 2022, Juiz de Instrução nº 53 of Madrid issued an order – after a positive report from the Public Ministry – by which, considering the precautionary measures requested by LaLiga, it agreed to withdraw from the Google Store (Google Play) in good -well-known ‘IPTV SMARTERS PRO’ Player application, which once installed allowed – according to the conclusions of a UDEV report – to view premium television channels on which LaLiga games were broadcast, among other content.”
