K-pop group Seventeen becomes UNESCO ambassador

PARS.- He group South Korean member of K-pop Seventeen, among the most popular in the world, became today -June 26- Goodwill Ambassador of the Unesco.

“It is with great humility and emotion that we present ourselves before you today for the first time as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Youth,” said Joshua, one of the members of the group, during a press event at the Paris headquarters of the UNESCO. “As Youth Ambassador, we will spread the power of camaraderie and help build supportive youth communities for the better future we imagine,” he continued.

Group monetary contribution

The group also announced a contribution of one million dollars to UNESCO.

“Our partnership with Seventeen will give new impetus, a great boost to our efforts,” celebrated the Director General of UNESCO, the French Audrey Azoulay.

“The K-pop band will be a fantastic bridge between us, UNESCO, our values, what we represent, our goal of peace and young people,” said the director.

Seventeen, a South Korean group founded in 2015 by 13 young artists, was the second group that generated the most income in the world in 2023, behind the American superstar Taylor Swift, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.

His songs were listened to billions of times on the Spotify platform and his single Don’t Wanna Cry It had more than 275 million views on YouTube.

Seventeen performed in November 2023 in the large Parisian UNESCO auditorium, a quiet space that the band turned into a real festival. All 500 tickets for the event were sold out in less than an hour.

The Brazilian soccer player Vinicius Jr, the Spanish actress Rossy de Palma, the American actor Forest Whitaker and the Italian-Argentine chef Mauro Colagreco are also ambassadors of UNESCO.
