US singer Katy Perry has lost a trademark battle against Australian designer Katie Taylor, the BBC reports. Taylor sells clothing under her maiden name, Katie Perry, and has sued Katy Perry for infringing on her trademark merchandise. A court upheld the lawsuit, which involved clothing from Katy Perry’s 2014 tour.

It was a “fairy tale of two women, two childhood dreams and one name,” the BBC quoted from the judge’s verdict. The US singer, born Katheryn Hudson, has used the Perry name in good faith and does not have to pay any personal compensation, but her company Kitty Purry may have to pay a financial penalty. The amount will be decided in May.

Taylor began selling clothing under the Katie Perry name in 2007 and applied for trademark rights for it in 2008. The US singer also had her first hits in 2008. The judge did not give in to her request to remove Katie Perry’s trademark rights.
