The “Kidical Mass” is all about safety for children on the road. These are the starting points of the tour in Duisburg on Sunday.
Next Sunday, May 7th, the “Kidical Mass” in Duisburg starts again. Families with children in particular are called upon to demonstrate for the safety of cyclists on the road by taking part in the bike tour during the nationwide campaign weekend.

There are starting points on Sundays in the city center (2.30 p.m., Ludgeriplatz, Neudorf and 3 p.m., main station station forecourt) as well as in Wedau and Bissingheim (3 p.m. Wedau market square and 3.30 p.m. Bissingheim, elementary school).
Broad alliance supports organizer Wolfgang Dewald
Wolfgang Dewald, Duisburg bicycle activist and organizer of the tour, is supported by a broad alliance of various organizations and clubs in the city. “Children on bikes, that’s what we want to promote,” says Anna Žalac, head of the DRK family education center. “We need bike lanes that we don’t have to be brave for.”
In front of the town hall, the demands on the mayor are painted or written on posters and hung on a children’s bike. The ADFC’s most recent climate test for bicycles once again gives reason to do so: Once again, the Duisburg cycle path network received bad marks.
Demand: Chapter for child safety in the city’s mobility concept
“The new Duisburg mobility concept must include a chapter on the mobility of children and young people,” demands Wolfgang Dewald. “They make up a large proportion of road traffic and are particularly worthy of protection,” says the organizer of the tour.
Another focus is the danger posed by truck traffic. At the end of the day, there will be a large fire engine and rescue vehicle in the city center that the participants can climb onto to illustrate the dimensions of the dangers.
The two demos with and for children and young people are under police protection. Both the routes and the pace are designed for the little ones.
