The agreement of the presidential candidates of Together for Change Horacio Rodriguez Larreta y Patricia Bullrich on the candidacies in the City and Province of Buenos Aires was reflected in a statement that says more than what is written and where the central objective was to send a clear sign of unity against the stagnation that they began to see in some surveys.

The decision was made during a new meeting that both held together with the former president Mauricio Macri and the deputy Maria Eugenial Vidal. These meetings became more periodic due to the need to order the strategy of the PROwhose internal directly or indirectly drags the entire opposition alliance.

The announcement that the two central figures of the PRO agreed to define by means of a survey the party’s sole candidate for Buenos Aires head of government and both bring their own candidate for Buenos Aires governor for the August PASO is a clear computermainly for being two strategic districts for the national race.

But the most important aspect was that the statement came out with the only signatures of the two of them. Only Larreta and Bullrich, neither Macri nor Vidal. Party sources confirmed to iProfessional that an attempt was made to send a forceful signal of unity that would “put itself above the political noise” generated by the inmate that keeps the opposition alliance on edge, but also serves to clarify the outlook for the electorate.

Larreta, Bullrich and a more specific unit to recover ground

As if that gesture were not enough, in the first item of the joint statement Larreta and Bullrich indicated that their campaign teams “will advance together on operational issues such as auditing of the election and ballots”. It is another central aspect because it implies that, despite the competition in the PASO, each one will not work by their side.

The message is not only inside the coalition but also outside. different consulting firms began to show stagnation and even regression in the intention to vote for Together for Change due to the difficulties in containing the tension between the sector of the head of the Buenos Aires Government and that of the former Minister of Security who, combined with the growth of the libertarian Javier Mileibecame dangerous in the face of the elections.

Thus it was presented as an agreement, essentially, between the two presidential candidates, rather than the entire party. Larreta and Bullrich thus give the signal that the PRO will play as a team beyond the electoral struggle that divides them and that the army will go through the two of them because they are the exclusive figuressomething that gives them some independence from Macri.

The Photo of Larreta’s kiss to Bullrich At the launch of the Together for Change campaign in Córdoba, it was intended to be a gesture of détente, but without an agreement on the strategy to face a national election that is considered “of thirds” – between the opposition alliance, the Government and Milei as a disruptive figure- it was just a photo. Both Now move on to the more specific: the operational part of an electoral campaign.

The PRO agreement for the City: Vidal is left out

The City is the heart of the internal PRO, for being the only district that governs, for being the cradle of the party and for having one of the presidential candidates in charge today. The support of Macri and Bullrich together to Jorge Macri and that of Larreta to his Minister of Health, Fernan Quiroswas one of the main requirements to order the inmate nationwide.

By communicating that “Both Jorge Macri and Fernan Quirós agree” with choosing the PRO candidate through polls, the party leadership confirmed that it will be one of the two and implicitly canceled the possibility of Vidal emerging as a figure of consensus.

This was pointed out to iProfesional by sources from the Buenos Aires PRO who also remarked that there is confidence in the methodology that will be used and in the results of these polls. And it is that with this an open competition is avoided that divide the vote yellow in front of the radical Martin Lousteau without neither of the two sectors have to lower their bishop, which would be read as a sign of weakness. The name will be revealed at the end of the month.

He agreement for the Province has its own peculiarities, although the decision that Larreta and Bullrich each have a pre-candidate for governor simplifies the assembly of Together for Change in the district that concentrates 37% of the national electorate.

The agreement in the Province: what will happen in the municipalities and how is the UCR?

Larreta will appear at the PASO with Diego Santilli as a candidate for governor, while Bullrich will have to choose between Christian Ritondo, Joaquin de la Torre y Javier Iguacel.

In that scheme, The UCR would need to keep Gerardo Morales in the race for the presidential candidacy to present a candidate from Buenos Aires with chances of fighting the PRO contenders in the PASO, who will have the drag of the two presidential candidates.

If that situation did not occur, the radicalismo would have an alternative to agree with Bullrich to hook a candidate for governor on his ticket. The sources consulted clarify that for now there is nothing discussed in this regard, although they repeat that “there is a long way to go.” In the Province today the deputy runs for the UCR martin tetaz and the party leader Maximilian Abbot.

In addition, the Buenos Aires agreement reaches the municipalities. During the meeting of the heads of the PRO, it was decided to prevent there being a STEP in the districts where the mayor is from Together for Change and to limit it, if possible, to two pre-candidates in places where they are in opposition.
