Early voting to replace Santos in Congress

This Saturday the early voting period for the presidential primary elections ends. The polls will be open until 6 p.m.

As of Friday, more than 44,000 voters had cast their ballots.

Manhattan continues to lead participation with almost 14,000 votes.

More than 11,000 voters went to the polls in Brooklyn and more than 10,000 in Queens.

New York has a closed primary system, so voters can only participate in those of the party to which they are registered.

The primary elections take place this Tuesday.

The key dates to vote in New York State, including the April 2 election, are:

  • April 1: Deadline to request an early mail-in ballot and absentee ballot at the board of elections.
  • April 2: The election process begins and is the deadline to return the early ballot by mail.
  • April 30: New York’s 26th district election to fill Brian Higgins’ seat.
  • June 25: State primary elections.
  • November 5: General elections.
