Peter Urban has been commenting on ESC events for German viewers for many years. Today he does that for the last time. Does he have parting pains?

Liverpool – The ESC commentator Peter Urban is in high spirits in his last Grand Prix presentation for the German television audience. “First of all, I’m incredibly happy to be here in Liverpool,” said the 75-year-old in an interview with the German Press Agency in Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is to take place there from 9 p.m. Urban: “There is no better city for the ESC – cheerful, partying, empathetic towards Ukraine and the people who have fled Ukraine. And such a great partner for the ESC. And it’s a great pleasure to be able to do my last ESC show here.”

At the same time, however, he faces this moderation “with a heavy heart”, said Urban. “I have to see that I can get through the evening well without getting muddled, nervous or choking because the lump in my throat is too big.

Has he already composed his last words to the audience? “In my head, but not real yet. I haven’t written them down yet. But I’ll just say thank you. That’s actually all. Thanks to the spectators, to the employees and for the many years of loyalty to the ESC.” Urban has presented the ESC for ARD since 1997. dpa
