The 53-year-old was found with some prospective buyers in his apartment building, where he was improperly hoarding the pyrotechnic items.

After a concerned citizen pointed out that large quantities of pyrotechnic objects were being illegally stored and sold in a residential building in Lauterach, officers from the Lauterach Police Inspectorate carried out an inspection on Thursday afternoon in the presence of colleagues from the State Criminal Police Office who are experts in explosives.

The 53-year-old seller and several prospective buyers were found there and a large number of pyrotechnic objects were found. The pyros of all classes were improperly and dangerously stored within the residence. The seller was neither in possession of a corresponding official permit nor a trade license.

1,500 kilos net explosive mass

Due to the large amount of around 1,500 kilograms of net explosive mass, officials from the defusing service were called in to categorize the explosive goods and ensure that they were safely transported away.

Among the pyrotechnic objects were so-called “ball bombs” of class F4, for which technical knowledge and a pyrotechnics certificate of the class mentioned are required. Such pyrotechnics repeatedly lead to serious injuries in lay hands. The exact origin and the sale value of the seized objects is still the subject of the investigation. The 53-year-old is reported to the district administration.
