THE ANGELS.- Bronny James, son of the historic LeBron Jameswill participate in the NBA Draft after spending a season at the University of Southern California that was shortened due to his recovery after suffering cardiac arrest.
The 19-year-old son of LeBron James said Friday on his Instagram account that he also intends to maintain his college eligibility by entering the transfer portal.
“I had a year of ups and downs, but everything added to my growth as a person, student and athlete,” James indicated in his publication.
James released his decision hours before USC introduced Eric Musselman as its new coach, replacing Andy Enfield, who left the team Monday for SMU.
“Bronny is his own person,” LeBron James said this week. “He has some difficult decisions to make and when he is ready to make them he will tell us. But as a family we are going to support him in whatever he decides.”
James averaged 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds as a starter in six of the Trojans’ 25 games. He made 37% of his field goals, 27% from three and 68% of his free throws.
James Sr., his wife and their 9-year-old daughter were a constant presence at the Galen Center this season.
LeBron, 39, has openly spoken about his desire to play with his son in the NBA.
Rich Paul, CEO of Klutch Sports who represents both players, recently indicated that he does not “value a young player being in the lottery as much as him landing on the right team for his development.”

The 1.93 meter tall point guard debuted in college basketball until December 10. James appeared in front of the press for less than a minute to thank the doctors, trainers and support staff who helped him return.
Despite requests, James did not speak to reporters again.
On July 20, he suffered cardiac arrest during training at the Galen Center and was found to have a treatable congenital heart defect.
