Les Flammes, an awards ceremony focused on rap and other affiliated currents, an alternative to the Victoires de la Musique, shared the list of jury members for its first edition on Monday, scheduled for May 11 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
Composed of 23 music professionals (13 women and 10 men), this selection aims to “give a balanced and honest representation of the industry”, specifies Les Flammes on his site.
Among the jurors announced are present representatives of record companies such as Oumar Samaké (SPKTAQLR), Antoine Guéna (Panenka Music) or Pauline Duarte (Epic Records France), journalists (Stéphanie Binet, Jean Morel…), entertainment professionals (Hylda Gbenou, programmer of the Solidays festival…) as well as representatives of institutions (National Center for Music, SACEM) and image professionals (Leila Sy, Nathalie Canguilhem…).
Votes that count at 50%
These 23 specialists had the role of voting from a list of nominees drawn up in two stages. First, industry players proposed their artists, then these names were submitted to a panel of journalists and rap specialists, who then selected ten nominees per category.
This pre-selection was unveiled at the end of March and subjected to a final skimming. On the one hand, Internet users were able to vote, between March 27 and April 10, on a dedicated platform, to define their top 3 among 13 of the 21 categories submitted to the public vote. On the other, the jury, revealed on Monday, also voted to elect its top three in all 21 categories. Their votes thus count for 50% in the final results.
On their site, the organizers of the Flames specify that the anonymity of the jury was certified by a confidentiality clause throughout the voting process in order to prevent any form of consultation between the members. The big winners will be revealed on the stage of the Théâtre du Châtelet on May 11.
