It all started in June 1995, when at the age of 21 Monica Lewinsky she began working as an intern at the White House. In the fall of that year, she began an intimate relationship with the president that lasted even after Lewinsky was hired in the Pentagon’s public relations division in April nineteen ninety six.
One of her new co-workers, Linda Trippturned into a friend and confidante, recorded the telephone conversations in which Lewinsky acknowledged his intimate contacts with Clinton.
In 1998 the tapes reached the prosecutor’s office Kenneth Starr and caused a real political earthquake. Accused of perjury, the president was subjected to a trial in Congress (impeachment) from which he emerged unscathed, although badly affected.

THE INTERN, THE BAD ONE AND THE DECEIVED WIFE
Three women had a leading role in this story: Monica Lewinsky, Linda Tripp and Hillary Clinton. The first of her, Monica Lewinsky, an intern in her early twenties blinded by the lights of the White House and by her closeness to the man who ran the greatest center of political power in the world.
The role of “bad” fell to Linda Tripp, the Defense Department official who surreptitiously recorded the intern’s confessions when she arrived at the Pentagon. For some she was a traitor. Others appreciate her courage in denouncing events that, according to them, called into question the capacity and moral integrity of the president. Hillary Clinton was her deceived wife.

Despite the fact that years later she publicly acknowledged the pain she felt for her husband’s infidelities, she remained by his side in the worst of the crisis and became his most faithful ally.
In a television interview in the first weeks of the scandal, she blamed the case on a vast right-wing conspiracy, directing criticism of her husband’s adultery into the political arena.
