Author of a good first part of the 2022-2023 season, Lille OSC is still looking to improve its workforce during this winter transfer window. Paulo Fonseca and the management of Lille have a priority this winter.

Paulo Fonseca is expecting just one recruit this winter

After a difficult 2021-2022 season and finishing in 10th place in Ligue 1, Lille started a new project last summer by handing over the keys to the team to the ambitious Paulo Fonseca. Under the orders of the Portuguese technician, who notably worked for AS Roma, the northern club has found some color in recent months.

A good first part of the season

Seventh in the standings after 17 days in the league, LOSC are only six points off the third step of the podium occupied by Olympique de Marseille. The first part of the season in Lille is therefore rather convincing, like the game offered by the Dogues who have the fifth attack in Ligue 1 (30 goals), behind PSG (46), Marseille (34), Rennes (34) and Monaco ( 33).

Faced with this observation, Lille has no intention of upsetting its workforce this winter. Attacking, Fonseca already has plenty of options for three positions with Jonathan David, Mohamed Bayo, Timothy Weah, Jonathan Bamba, Alan Virginius, Adam Ounas and Edon Zhegrova. In the midfield, Rmy Cabella, Angel Gomes, Benjamin Andr, Andr Gomes and Jonas Martin ensure the rotation, while the young Carlos Baleba comes to make up the number in case of absence in this sector.

A wanted right side

The only real lack is in defense. Not in the axis, where Fonseca relies on Jos Fonte, Tiago Djalo, Alexsandro or even the young Leny Yoro. Neither left, where Ismaily is unstoppable in front of his understudy Gabriel Gudmundsson. It is rather in the right corridor that you have to look. Following the loan of Akim Zedadka to AJ Auxerre, LOSC has only one real option for this position with Bafod Diakit, a central defender converted to full back. During the last two games, it was the young Simon Ramet who was called up to the first team to fill a possible need for this position.

If Djalo can help in the right lane, Fonseca could opt for the arrival of a reinforcement to leave the Portuguese international in the axis. I’m not a fan of this winter transfer window but we will be attentive to opportunities on the right-back position , said the Lille coach at a press conference this Friday. Among the LOSC targets, the name of Rick Karsdorp (Roma) is mentioned but many clubs are interested (OM, Lyon, Juve, Feyenoord, Fulham) in the Dutchman. Lille still has three weeks to find its footing.
