Lithium battery cause of deadly fire

Once again there is another deadly fire caused by a lithium-ion battery.

This time it claimed the lives of three members of the same family in Brooklyn over the weekend.

Investigators indicated that the batteries of these two electric scooters that you see on the screen caught fire early Sunday morning inside a home located on Albany Avenue, in the Crown Heights area.

Fire Department Commissioner Laura Kavanuagh said these types of batteries are “time bombs” and called for strong measures against the sale of uncertified devices.

Sunday’s three deaths bring the total number of people killed in fires so far in 2023 to 93.

That puts the City on track to surpass 100 fire deaths this year.
