Lobster mini-season begins in Florida on Sunday

MIAMI.- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis added the mini-season for sport fishing for spiny lobster on Sunday, July 14, in which only residents of the Sunshine State will be able to participate.

“We want to make sure Floridians have the right opportunities, so I’m pleased to announce an additional day for our lobster mini-season,” the governor said at a press conference in Marathon last June.

Typically, the lobster mini-season takes place on the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday of July, but this year an extra day has been added.

Participants may harvest up to 12 lobsters per person, except in Monroe County and Biscayne National Park, where up to six lobsters are permitted. Additionally, the law requires that the shell of each lobster caught be at least three inches long.

Florida’s regular commercial and recreational lobster fishing season begins August 6, 2024, and runs through March 31, 2025. The daily bag limit is six lobsters per participant.
