The suspect, detained in the La Talaudière penitentiary center, was indicted for the bare-handed murder of his fellow prisoner.

A detainee from the La Talaudière penitentiary center (Loire) was indicted on Friday for the bare-handed murder of his fellow prisoner, we learned on Sunday from a judicial source.

“The surprising explanations given by this man to explain his outburst of violence led us to wonder about his mental state,” André Merle, the deputy public prosecutor of Saint-Etienne, told AFP, confirming information from the regional daily Progress.

The magistrate simply indicated that the doctor who examined this 29-year-old man, indicted for murder and returned to detention, had deemed his condition “compatible with police custody”.

Beatings received during the night

The 25-year-old victim died Thursday at Saint-Etienne University Hospital as a result of blows received during the previous night.

Both were in their cell in the semi-freedom section of the La Talaudière penitentiary center when the attack took place.

Supervisors who were in another building were alerted by video surveillance images. The younger of the two was unconscious when they arrived there.
