Warner Bros. Pictures will be reissuing the “Lord of the Rings” film series. The reported including the US trade journal Variety. In a conference call, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced that newly appointed studio heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy had negotiated a deal to bring “several” films based on the popular books by JRR Tolkien under the WB label Shoot New Line Cinema.

The first “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson, has grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide; Jackson’s sequel trilogy, based on Tolkien’s The Hobbit, also achieved the same box office result.

Let’s see what those at Warner are doing who have already managed to make three feature-length films out of the relatively thin (page wise) book The Hobbit. Maybe you squeeze 120 minutes out of Tom Bombadil. New Line, Warner Bros.’ film label, produced the original Lord of the Rings trilogy in the early 2000s.

Last year, Embracer bought the rights holder, Middle-earth Enterprises, giving the Swedish company the rights to almost everything LOTR-related — including movies, video games, merchandise, theme parks, and live shows. Amazon owns the television rights and is currently producing The Rings of Power, although those rights are limited to specific stories and characters.

Die-hard fans are sure to pull a long face, while friends of hopefully good stories are certainly looking forward to seeing new adventures in a familiar setting.
