The conflict unleashed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine “had to be discussed at the United Nations”, but “it is the members of the Security Council who make the war” and those who “believe that the war will end only when one of the parties are imposed” on the other by military means, he said.
Lula admitted that a “peace proposal can only be discussed when the two countries (in conflict) want to,” but insisted that world leaders must work to create this situation, instead of “feeding” the war.
The Brazilian president considered the immobility of the UN “impressive” in the face of the war in Ukraine and the growing tension in Israel and the Middle East, which now also threatens to unleash new conflicts of global scope.
