the long horror M3GAN is one of the most anticipated of 2023 and already has a confirmed date to debut in Brazil. It will hit the big screens in our country in the January 19th, Thursday. Directed by Gerard Johnstone and produced by James Wan (conjuring, Malignant, Deadly Games), the film promises a frightening plot that mixes terror with hints of comedy.

The story follows M3GAN, a realistic doll that was created by Gemma, through artificial intelligence. The purpose of the toy is to keep the children company and, consequently, give the parents a rest.

One day, Gemma uses her own invention to care for her orphaned niece who now lives in her house. What she didn’t count on, however, is that the doll would come to life and become a real killer, killing everyone who approaches Cady, the child to which M3GAN belongs.

What to expect from M3GAN?

The film’s trailer shows that audiences can expect a somewhat frightening plot with many deaths. In addition, there will be comic moments, when, for example, M3GAN does a strange dance before chasing its victim.

This scene even went viral on social media, which favored the dissemination of the film and increased the interest of teenagers in the film.

About this, Akela Cooper, screenwriter of M3GAN said that it is not entirely ruled out that the film will be given an unrated version, so that it can be watched by all—the original version that hit theaters is not suitable for those under 18 years old.

“I understand that once the trailer went viral, teens got involved, and we want them to be able to see it. There should be an unrated version at some point”

What is M3GAN about?

According to James Wan, the film is a critique of our society and the way we use technology—and how it controls us.

“I took the concept of the ‘possessed doll’, but instead of being possessed by a supernatural entity, a demon or whatever, it’s actually controlled by technology. A robot, after all. A robot with a very specific programming. It seemed to be something different that we’ve never seen before. The fact that it’s a social commentary on our dependence as a society on technology and the extent to which parents today outsource childcare responsibilities to computers, iPads, iPhones. Technology ends up becoming your children’s nanny.”

Who is in the cast of M3GAN?

To bring this story to life, the film featured Violet McGraw as Cady, Allison Williams (girls) as Gemma and Amie Donald (Sweet Tooth) like M3GAN. Also completing the team are Brian Jordan Alvarez, Ronny Chieng, Jen Brown, among others.

The success of M3GAN

The film arrived in the United States days before its premiere in Brazil, and conquered the public there. The attraction raised US$ 2.75 million (approximately R$ 16 million) in its preview, and had a 95% approval from the specialized critic on the Rotten Tomatoes website. Already among ordinary viewers, the approval was at 79%.

In this way, it is expected that the work will also conquer Brazilians and make good results at the national box office.
