O Maia BD is an initiative of the Municipality of Maia with the editorial cooperative A Seita and intends to give attention to comics in three days of programming, with exhibitions, a book fair, round tables and meetings with authors, says the organization in a press release. press.
The first edition will take place from June 16th to 18th at Forum da Maia and, according to information on the official website of the municipality, the presence of more than 20 authors is confirmed.
Among them is the French artist Georges Bess, whose album ‘Drácula’ was edited in 2021, based on the work of Bram Stoker.
Another of the guests is Marco Mendes, who will have an exhibition dedicated to the book ‘Youth’, published in 2022 by A Seita, which unveils a visual narrative sequence, of biographical inspiration and without text.
The Marco Mendes exhibition, despite being included in the Maia BD, will be on display for practically the entire month of June, at the municipal library.
During the three days of the festival, two other exhibitions are confirmed.
One of them takes a retrospective look at the trilogy ‘The Complete Adventures of Dog Mendonça and PizzaBoy’, by Juan Cavia (drawing) and Santiago Villa (color), with a script by Filipe Melo.
After being published in volumes between 2010 and 2013, the stories will be re-edited this year in a single volume by Companhia das Letras.
The other exhibition at Maia BD focuses on ‘Auto da Barca do Inferno’, an adaptation of a classic of Portuguese literature, by Gil Vicente, by João Miguel Lameiras, with a drawing by Joana Afonso, to be edited by Levoir.
Rita Alfaiate, André Lima Araújo, Mosi, Luís Louro, Bernardo Majer, Filipe Abranches and the Colombian Canizales are other confirmed names.
The complete program will be announced on May 18th at Maia, in a session that will screen the short films ‘Ice Merchants’, by João Gonzalez – who was a candidate for the Oscars -, ‘The Lone Wolf’, by Filipe Melo, and ‘ O Homem do Lixo’, by Laura Gonçalves.
