It was in September 2021 that then regional councilor Lena Asplund chose to file a police report after she was subjected to threats and hatred on social media.

The 55-year-old man who is convicted of defamation has previously been politically active in Västernorrland but now lives in southern Sweden. The man has admitted that he wrote the post but denies being guilty of defamation.

The man is sentenced to 40 days in daily fines of SEK 300 and he must also pay damages to Lena Asplund of SEK 5,000.
