San Salvador.- A court ruling in El Salvador sentenced a man to 19 years in prison for beating and raping a girl, the Civil Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported on Tuesday.
This is Rubén Fernández, who was prosecuted for the crime of aggravated rape for an act perpetrated on July 27, 2020 in the municipality of El Paisnal (north), according to the FGR.
The Public Ministry reported that “The girl was traveling on her bicycle when the defendant intercepted her, threatened her with a firearm to take her to a desolate place where he beat her and abused her.”
Amnesty International (AI) has considered El Salvador one of the most dangerous countries in the world for girls and women due to the rates of femicide and the high levels of sexual violence they face.
The report «The voices of the Boys, Girls and Adolescents of Latin America and the Caribbean», carried out by the World Movement for Children, points out that in 75% of cases of sexual abuse of minors there is a direct relationship between the aggressor and the victim.
