A Cuban-American who used the roaming service On an emergency visit to Cuba, he faced an astronomical phone bill after his trip to the island.

Isidro Abello was shocked to receive a cell phone bill of almost $3,000 after taking a trip to Cuba for a family emergency.

Despite having hired the international roaming service with T-Mobile before his departure, faced serious connectivity problems on the island and ended up using another cell phone to communicate with his family in the United States.

Upon returning, Isidro discovered that his account reflected huge charges for roaming and the international pass he had purchased, totaling more than $2,800.

Outraged, he contacted T-Mobile to dispute the bill, insisting on not accepting a $500 credit the phone company offered as an initial solution to the problem.

He did not receive a satisfactory response from the company, which continued with the collection of the invoice, until Isidro took the case to the press, specifically to Telemundo 51 to seek help.

Finally the man managed to get his account adjusted to his usual monthly rate, ruling out the excessive additional charges.

Determined not to face a similar situation in the future, Isidro chose to switch to another telephone operator. “Here, if one goes wrong, you look for another,” he said, relieved after resolving the incident.

Isidro’s case shows the importance for travelers to be aware of the costs of international roaming and to always check the coverage they are receiving during the trip. Also, remember the importance of requesting assistance and documenting well any disputes with service providers.
