Bellingham: ""We have dominated and we could have scored more goals”

Mexico City, Aug 14 (EFE).- Former Mexican Foreign Minister and presidential candidate for the ruling party, Marcelo Ebrard presented this Monday his economic plan for Mexico to grow at 5% and create 6 million jobs, in addition to doubling the average salary in the next years.

“It is about growing much faster, it is possible. It is an opportunity that we have to take and it has to translate into our income being able to double, that is the goal of this decade to grow at 5%, 6 million new jobs and that the salary is worth double,” Ebrard said at an informative event in the Iztapalapa mayor’s office, in eastern Mexico City.

To achieve these goals, Ebrard pointed out that Mexico has to take advantage of the “nearshoring” or relocation of production chains that arose after the covid-19 pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine.

“They have offered us 4% but the truth is that we can reach 5,” said Ebrard, and recalled that the Government of Mexico, headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and to which he belonged, had to face the pandemic, paralyzed the economy two and a half years and “we are currently seeing that foreign investment is growing and there is growth. The next few years we will be able to reach 5%.”

To achieve this growth, he explained, it is necessary to generate 6 million jobs in the next 2024-2030 administration. “The intention is for the middle class to grow and represent the majority of the population, with which, in addition, he said, there would no longer be extreme poverty.”

Last Thursday, the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (Coneval) of Mexico reported that the country reduced its number of poor by 8.9 million to a total of 46.8 million people, almost 16% less than 55.7 million in 2020.

The race for the candidacy for the presidential elections of June 2024 began with the internal process of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) that began on June 19.

Ebrard along with five other candidates from the ruling party, including the former mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, will tour the country until August 27, one day before the start of the period of polls commissioned by the party to define the candidate. which will last until September 3 and whose final result will be known on the 6th of that month.
