PHOENIX.- Ryan Weathers worked six dominant innings, Jake Burger hit a two-run single with two outs in the seventh and the Miami Marlins They defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 on Sunday.
The emerging Marlins won two of three against the Diamondbacks to take their fourth straight series. Miami has won nine of 13 after starting the season 10-31.
Weathers (3-4) continued his breakout season with another stellar performance, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out seven. The 24-year-old left-hander has allowed just one earned run in his last three starts, spanning 21 innings.
Tanner Scott worked the ninth for his seventh save in eight opportunities.
The Marlins took a 3-0 lead in the seventh, taking advantage of a throwing error by shortstop Kevin Newman that allowed Nick Fortes to score the first run.
With runners on first and second and one out, Newman fielded a hard grounder to his backhand. The shortstop attempted to start a double play, but his throw to second baseman Blaze Alexander was off the mark, allowing Fortes to easily reach the plate.
Kevin Ginkel (2-1) took the loss after allowing three unearned runs in the seventh.

For the Marlins, Dominicans Jesús Sánchez 2-2 with a run scored and Bryan de la Cruz 5-2 with a run scored
For the Diamondbacks, the Venezuelans Gabriel Moreno 4-1, Eugenio Suárez 4-1. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was 0 for 4 with an RBI.
