The Minister of Health of Santa Fe, Sonia Martoranoconfirmed this Friday that two deaths and a total of 10,805 cases of dengue were registered throughout the province, although he considered that the “lethality” of the virus “remains low.”

Regarding the increase in cases, the head of the Santa Fe Health Portfolio pointed out that it is due to various factors: “On the one hand, Aedes already lives in our area and every four years there are buds”.

Added to that is climate change. and the strengthening of the notification system during the pandemic”, added the minister.

Along these lines, he explained “that in Santa Fe it was defined confirm disease by epidemiological link. If you wait for confirmation there are delays and that leaves people without treatment,” she said.

He warned, “that the main complication of the disease can occur with the second contagion. When you have the second dengue of another serotype there are chances it’s hemorrhagic and there were some cases”.

“Currently in Santa Fe there are two serotypes of dengue, ‘Den 1’ and ‘Den 2’ and the main point to take into account is that people who contract the disease do not become reinfected with another serotype”asserted the head of the provincial health portfolio.

For this reason, the Santa Fe official warned: “That is where the possibility of hemorrhagic infection can arise and that can end in a multisystem failure. Although dengue is not like Covid and the lethality is low, it can happen”.

Regarding the people who died from having contracted the disease, the health area specified that the first one was registered on March 11 in the city of Reconquista with a 77-year-old man; and on March 30, a 69-year-old woman, resident in the city of Santa Fe Capital, died.
