The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a phenomenon unprecedented in the history of cinema. A relatively young film franchise “shoots” a blockbuster onto the big screen several times a year and almost always ends up with a hit with the public. Disney’s acquisition of Marvel Publishers in 2009 for just one $4 billion turned out to be a brilliant move. Since then, the superhero universe has ensured continued hype at the box office. In the future, however, the MCU will probably have to do without the original Avengers.
Marvel Cinematic Universe – what happens next?
The start in the stage 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was more than bumpy. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania failed to impress either the public or the box office. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, filmmaker James Gunn managed to make up for this. However, serious allegations against Jonathan Majors, the actor who played the main antagonist of Phase 5, hang like a dark cloud over the numerous Marvel productions. The actor may be released from his engagement and a new actor must take over.
With The Marvels (October 10, 2023), Captain America: New World Order (May 3, 2024), Thunderbolts (July 28, 2024) and Blade (September 6, 2024), there are still four major cinema productions to come before Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is heralded. Examining this list more closely, it is noticeable that none of the founding members of the Avengers seem to play any relevant role. stands the Marvel fans a final one generation change before?
Marvel Cinematic Universe: The definitive end of the “old” Avengers?
The Avengers superhero squad consisted of six founding members. Iron-Man, Captain America, Thor the Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow made cinematic history in 2012 in a brilliant finale of the first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But now there aren’t many heroines and heroes left over from then. Because the fight against evil sometimes demands great sacrifices.
Who is left of the “old” Avengers anyway? Iron Man and Black Widow died on the screen by fighting each other Boss Thanos heroically sacrificed. Captain America went back in time and decided to literally give up his superhero career. Jeremy Renner, the actor who played Hawkeye, is still in rehab after a bad accident. Disney is currently in a dilemma. You won’t be able to hold on to the “old” heroes forever. The Guardians of the Galaxy are also history in their original cast after the third cinematic adventure. It remains to be seen whether the new actors will be able to drive millions of fans and billions in sales in the future. Phase 5 of the MCU means definitely the end of the era of the original Avengers.
New cinema films of the superhero troupe are to be released in framework of phase 6 will be in cinemas from 2025. If the new heroes have not established themselves by then, Disney will probably do a lot of convincing in terms of very high fees to unite the original Avengers once again on the big screen in the fight against evil.
