News JVTech Meta finds a new argument to convince users to join the metaverse

Despite the unreassuring financial results of Meta in 2022, the Facebook group continues to believe in this 3D virtual world project, more commonly known as Metavers. The Company also intends to convince its users to take an interest in the metaverse by invoking a new argument.

Despite a multi-billion dollar shortfall in the third quarter of 2022 after massive investments in the metaverse, Meta continues to have faith in its new project.

As a reminder, the Facebook group renamed itself META in 2021 with the aim of developing a metaverse dedicated to our online interactions in the future. This project takes the form of an interoperable 3D digital space in which users can interact and indulge in multiple activities (work, games, etc.) in an immersive and realistic environment.

This project to the tunes of the film Read Player One is to say the least visionary, so much so that it is struggling to convince users for the moment.

On the occasion of the Davos economic forum, Chris Cox, the social network’s product manager, communicated a more than enthusiastic opinion about this famous metaverse. According to him, the innovation of the metaverse is comparable to the smartphone revolution of the 21st century:

“one day, this computing platform will be as important as the smartphone has become”.

This taking part recalls the words of Nokia. Indeed, the former mobile phone manufacturer was even more enthusiastic in indicating an end to smartphones in favor of the metaverse.

This optimistic feeling is far from unique to the Meta group and Nokia. Indeed, many companies have already looked into the subject of the metaverse by offering various services in the virtual worlds already available, such as Meta, The Sandbox or even Decentraland.

Nevertheless, despite the growing enthusiasm of manufacturers, it is clear that this digital world does not necessarily achieve the success that has been predicted. In 2022, several polls showed a general misunderstanding about the metaverse – a view shared by Apple CEO Tim Cook:

“I think it’s always important for people to understand what things are. And I’m not really sure that the general public can say what the metaverse is,” explained Tim Cook at RTL Nieuws.

For Chris Cox, this lack of commitment and understanding comes mainly from the fact that the metaverse is not yet in its final form. The key area for improvement according to Meta’s product manager is the interoperability of this virtual universe:

“I think the internet is a really good way to think about the Metaverse, because parts of the internet are very consistent with each other.”

For the moment, the existing metaverses are isolated and do not communicate with each other, which is obviously nothing revolutionary. However, he remains convinced that the emergence of an internet in which the platforms communicate with each other would be of interest to the general public.

To image his idea, imagine that you hold a cosmetic in one game that you can transport to another game, which is precisely what interoperability allows. Nevertheless, before arriving at this type of result it will surely take several years to overcome the technical restrictions of the platforms, in order to set universal standards.
