Juarez City.- Mexican airlines canceled flights due to the winter storm affecting part of the United States, which prevents airports such as Chicago from operating normally.

Aeroméxico and Viva Aerobus informed their passengers coming and going to Chicago that the flights were canceled due to weather and asked them to keep an eye on their status in case they were reactivated, however they did not give an estimated time.

Viva Aerobus indicated that the canceled flights are those that came or went to Chicago from Mexico City, Guadalajara and El Bajío, which are waiting for their resumption.

“We are very sorry for any inconvenience that these weather conditions may cause, we are committed to your safety and we greatly appreciate your understanding,” the airline reported. “Our staff at airports and call centers are providing the best possible service, we ask for your patience, respect and understanding in the face of an event of this nature that is beyond our control.”

He added: “We suggest you take the necessary precautions during your transfers to the airports, in addition to keeping an eye on any information updates, through our official communication channels.”

Aeroméxico also informed the cancellation of its flights to or from Chicago and Detroit, and asked its passengers to apply the travel policy in which it offers them the change and reissuance of tickets at no cost until December 25.

He also called on travelers to be aware of the changes and status of their flights through social networks and email or telephone.

Due to the winter storm, airlines in the United States canceled more than 2,400 flights on Thursday and more than 2,200 on Friday, according to the flight tracking site Flightaware. Even for today, Saturday, some 125 flights have already been cancelled.

The biggest cancellations yesterday were at the Chicago and Denver airports, according to Flightaware data. They are in Detroit today, followed by New York’s Laguardia, as impacts from the storm move east.

In Ciudad Juárez the minimum temperature yesterday was -7 centigrade (19 Fahrenheit), and normal operation was reported at the local airport throughout the day. Only international flights or those that come in connection with the affected airports in the United States may be affected.

Aeroméxico reported that regarding flight changes on its Chicago or Detroit routes to or from Mexico, from December 21 to 25 “we will not charge you a fee for date change or fare difference, as long as the same route and cabin are respected. paid”.

While Viva Aerobus reported that “due to unfavorable weather conditions due to the winter storm, we foresee preliminary effects on some of our flights, mainly from/to: Chicago International Airport and Bajío International Airport.”

He explained that the Chicago airport remains operational, however, it suspended its operations as of 3:00 p.m. on Thursday and shared the list of the various flights canceled due to the weather event due to a winter storm over the Chicago Airport area, these being: VB 806 Bajío–chicago, VB549 Chicago–guadalajara, VB186 México–chicago and VB187 Chicago–mexico.

The airline asked for patience, respect and understanding in the face of an event of this nature that is out of its control.
