Game News MGS is not dead: a PS5 remake of Metal Gear Solid soon to be announced?

Some rumors die hard! And as some of them eventually come to fruition, it would be a shame not to believe in others that are just as consistent. Among them, the possible remake of Metal Gear Solid returns regularly to make the news, and could still be talked about again…

Every year, it’s the same thing, and we see the same rumors coming back as certain events approach, or even without any specific context seeming to lend itself to it. For several years, a certain remake of Metal Gear Solid has been mentioned very regularly, of the insiders more or less well placed considering in particular that this new production be ensured by Bluepoint Gamesa specialist in high-quality remasters and remakes, acquired in 2021 by sony to join the PlayStation Studios galaxy. After long years of speculation, and the recent announcement of another remake of a cult title by Konamiit could be that things will be clarified a little more soon.

Konami, a losing brand image

Released in September 2015, Metal Gear Solid V is the last canonical “MGS” in the series…

For many years, Konami has lost a lot of popularity among its fans. In 2015, the break between the Japanese publisher and its most illustrious employee, the famous game designer Hideo Kojima, was indeed as painful as it was publicized. Leading back and forth the cancellation of Silent Hills whose “PT” demo is cult for many players, or the complicated release of a Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain published without its designer already gone, the editor-developer has not only made friends, and his productions for seven long years have clearly reassured no one. We think in particular of the absence of any form of new unreleased title on the side of the cult licenses Castlevania or Silent Hill, or even the slow killing of Pro Evolution Soccer become eFootball, free-to-play with a very lackluster reputation.

MGS is not dead: a PS5 remake of Metal Gear Solid soon to be announced?

… but it’s Metal Gear Survive, released in February 2018, which is the last episode of the license.

On the side of the Metal Gear franchise, created in 1987 by Hideo Kojima and became ultra popular with the opus playstation in 1998, the exploitation was very low since the departure of its designer from the studio. Konami has only developed one new “Metal Gear” game since 2015, a certain Metal Gear Survive published in February 2018 and whose reception was more than mixed. If the publisher still holds the license rights, it’s a safe bet that the absence of the creator of his incredible universe slows down any desire to develop new unreleased episodes. So, why not capitalize on the immense aura of the franchise, praised in particular for its avant-garde scenarios and its very cinematic vision of video games, with up-to-date remakes? Or, finally, a revisited version of the excellent Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, still exclusive to PlayStation 3 for almost 15 years and which has never had the slightest remaster or port?

Remake of Silent Hill 2: an open door?

MGS is not dead: a PS5 remake of Metal Gear Solid soon to be announced?

At the end of 2022, the rumor of the remake of Silent Hill 2 finally ended with the officialization of the hoped-for project.

However, it is not this more than legitimate port, nor necessarily a remake of the first “MGS”, which seems about to be announced. Recently, it’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater whose name came up most often, and which we told you about again at the end of last year following a communication from Konami suggesting interesting announcements to come for 2023. Many times mentioned by insiders having also announced that we have sources confirming the remake of Silent Hill 2 finally officially confirmed by the publisher at the end of October 2022, this remake of Metal Gear therefore seems more and more coherent… and the latest information goes in this direction. Thus, the now famous “The Snitch”, anonymous having teased (or even explicitly leaked) several announcements since E3 2022 without ever being wrong, has been talked about again.

In an article byInsider Gaming, it is indeed reported a return of the most famous of the “leakers”, yet supposed to have ceased its activities last month. The latter thus indicated on his Discord server that a “reliable source had privately messaged him on Twitter to confirm that PlayStation will be making a third-party announcement very soon. Who says “3rd party” therefore says third party title, and not developed by a PlayStation studio (or published by Sony). However, it has now been a few years since a potential remake of Metal Gear Solid has been regularly mentioned, and with it the name of another Konami classic that appeared more or less at the same time regularly came up: Silent Hill 2. With the latter finally confirmed, rumors of a Metal Gear Solid remake are making more and more sense. It now remains to be seen which episode would be concerned, even if some other insiders insist on the very first opus of the famous infiltration license:

RUMOR: The Metal Gear Solid PS5 remake would be announced in a Sony presentation in February/March. ?

And you, which episode of the Metal Gear series would you like to see be the subject of a complete remake? Please let us know in the comments!
