Miami-based conservative media network Americano Media runs out of money

Miami, Aug 10 (EFE).- average americanan ambitious multimedia group in Spanish with a conservative editorial line created in 2022 and based in Miami, is experiencing financial difficulties and is looking for a new investor to stay afloat and continue its operations, according to information published this Thursday by The Miami Herald. .

The multimedia group set its ultimate goal in capturing a large-scale audience at the national level, in the style of the Fox News television channel, but has not been able, according to the aforementioned medium, to pay the salaries of its employees (more than a hundred) since last May and is experiencing financial difficulties.

Apparently, the online radio, news and television network is looking for an investment company to clean up its accounts. This could be Voz Media, based in Texas, which owns the Mega TV television stations in Miami and Puerto Rico, the South Florida newspaper said.

Americano Media was launched in March 2022 with a budget of 20 million dollars (about 18 million euros at today’s exchange rate) from investors who bet on the vision of Iván García-Hidalgo, founder and executive director of the group, to build a Network similar to Fox News, but in Spanish.

Garcia-Hidalgo told the Herald that difficult economic conditions made it difficult for Americano Media to achieve its goals before the company’s funds ran out.

“Americano Media is establishing a new multimedia platform during a historic recession, where attracting investment proved more challenging than we expected,” García-Hidalgo said in a brief statement sent to the paper.

He added that as a result of this situation, “our company grew faster than our fundraising.”

“Like any startup we are making adjustments to move forward. We are committed to paying our obligations, especially our team’s back wages, and moving resolutely into the future,” he said in his statement.

After having broadcast its radio content through Sirius FM, Americano Media began to operate the Radio Libre station in Miami and had previously launched its television content -today six hours of programming a day- through its own application and the platforms of ” streaming”.

The website of the group founded by García-Hidalgo, who has worked with large companies such as AT&T and in campaigns for Republican candidates, has received some 150,000 unique visits each month with almost no promotion since it launched last January.

The company had set itself the goal of making the leap into 50 key “markets” of the Hispanic community in the United States through alliances with other media.

In an interview last April with EFE, Alfonso Aguilar, who resigned a few days ago as senior vice president and political director of Americano Media, according to the Herald, defined Americano Media as “a network that celebrates free enterprise, our principles and Judeo-Christian values, freedom and democracy and the founding values of the nation”.

In Aguilar’s opinion, “there is a clear move by Hispanics to the right,” but it is mostly with English speakers, so it is important to “create a permanent presence” in the Spanish-speaking community with local and national programming, he said at the time.

Florida has been the gateway for Americano Media, but the goal was to expand the network across the nation. EFE
