The historic Miami-Dade courthouse, known as the courthouse and located at 73 W. Flagler St., will be listed for sale with an opening bid of $52.3 million.

County authorities have announced that the deadline for submitting bids will be early September and that the multi-million dollar building faces conservation challenges because it is considered a heritage site.

He Miami-Dade Courthouse It was built in 1925. This neoclassical building was designed by architect Albert Anthony Ten Eyck Brown (1878–1940) and was completed within three years. Originally, the 27-story building housed City Hall, the courthouse, and a jail.

In 1989 the Palace was included in the United States National Register of Historic Places Due to its unique architectural design, it has since become part of the urban heritage of the City of the Sun.

Over the years, the building’s maintenance has presented several challenges. In 2013, minor erosion was detected on the basement columns, raising concerns about its structural integrity and raising alarm bells about its costly restoration process.

In 2021, the building, which at the time served as a civil court, was evacuated for safety reasons. This decision was made after the collapse of a condo in Surfsidewhich resulted in the tragic deaths of 98 people.

The evacuation marked a critical point in the history of the Palace of Justice, underscoring the need to find a new owner for the building.

County officials are looking for a buyer, but it’s not an easy task because it must be someone sensitive to heritage, who respects the history of this iconic building and who is a millionaire.

Property records indicate the building’s assessed value is more than $43 million. The opening bid of $52.3 million reflects both the building’s historic value and renovation potential.

The pre-bid conference will be held on July 15. Two tours of the property are planned, on July 27 and August 3. The deadline for submitting questions about its technical condition and other details is August 23, and bids must be submitted by September 4.

American judges expressed their Local 10 the union’s regret over the sale of the building, and its hopes that the future owner will be able to preserve the historic value of the Miami-Dade Courthouse.
