Miami Heat rookie joins the team of best rookies

NEW YORK-. San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama was unanimously selected to the NBA All-Rookie Team. NBA this season, the league announced Monday. The first team also included Mexican-American Jaime Jáquez Jr., forward for the Miami Heat.

Wembanyama was not surprising at all, as he was unanimously proclaimed the rookie of the year by the same panel of 99 voters who participated in determining the league’s awards this season.

Aside from Wembanyama and Jáquez, the other three members of the first team were Chet Holmgren (Oklahoma City), Brandon Miller (Charlotte) and Brandin Podziemski (Golden State).

Holmgren — second in rookie of the year voting — also made the first team unanimously.

Miller, Jaquez and Podziemski placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the rookie of the year voting that was announced earlier this month. It was also the order they had in the vote for the ideal team. Jáquez emulated Wembanyama and Holmgren as the only ones who were mentioned on the 99 ballots.

The second best rookie team was made up of Dereck Lively II (Dallas), Amen Thompson (Houston), Keyonte George (Utah), Cason Wallace (Oklahoma City) and GG Jackson II (Memphis).

Selections for the defense team will be revealed on Tuesday, while the NBA team will be unveiled on Wednesday. Wembanyama is anticipated to be part of the defensive first team.

If Wembanyama finds space on one or both teams, he will be the first rookie to do so since a pair of other San Antonio centers who were also taken with the first overall pick in the draft: Tim Duncan in 1998 and David Robinson in 1990. .
