For the first time, the city of Miami hosts Fleet Week, an event in which the population will be able to access large warships and see a large aircraft carrier of the United States Navy from the coast.
From this Monday until Saturday, those interested will be able to tour four ships docked in the Port of Miami for free.
One of the big attractions is the USS Bataan aircraft carrier, an 843-foot amphibious assault ship whose arrival was greeted with applause from curious onlookers waiting excitedly on the shore.
You can also visit the guided missile cruisers USS Leyre Gulf and USS Normandy, as well as the Coast Guard cutter USCGS Seneca.
“It’s exciting to show off our ships, the types of jobs we do and just meet everyone. If you see a sailor, Marine or Coast Guardsman, feel free to stop them, take a photo and thank them for their service,” said Jasmin Aquino, Navy Communications specialist.
Visitors will be able to talk and take photos with sailors, marines and coast guardsmen, and learn about the Navy’s military technology and the programs it is a part of to protect the environment.
There will also be interactive displays of technology and fighter jets flying over the area, as well as concerts by the Navy and Marine Corps Band.
Visiting times:
Monday to Friday: from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Saturday: 9:00 to 11:00 am and 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

Tours will be reserved approximately 24 to 48 hours in advance on the FleetWeekMiami.org website and on the Fleet Week Miami Facebook page and must be taken at the scheduled times.
The USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, one of the largest ships in the Navy, will be anchored two or three miles from the coast and will not be visitable, but photos and videos will be able to be taken.
At 1,092 feet, it has the capacity to carry about 3,200 personnel and 85 deck-equipped fighter aircraft, making it one of the most important aircraft carriers in the US military.
