MIAMI.- On Friday, May 10, the documentary will premiere “Children of the Diaspora”directed by Lunes Oña, in the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora in Miami. The audiovisual investigates the persistence of Cuban culture in recent generations of the diaspora.
From Scotland to Ecuador, passing through Canada, Spain and Angola, 21 young Cubans who have grown up outside of Cuba, in 9 countries, talk about their experience of adaptation when living between two cultures and about the survival of the Cuban identity despite the family history of breakup and alienation.
Several of the participants have never visited the island or have a vague memory. He documentary film explores the experience of living between two cultures, that of the Cuban home and that of the host country. Those interviewed were born or raised in Miami, New York, Canada, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Spain, among others.
About the director
Lunes Oña, 23, is a son of the diaspora, a Spaniard of Cuban parents. Film, Television and Digital Production Student at Miami-Dade College and Cultural Promoter of the scene underground from South Florida. Awarded Best Instagram in Miami in 2023 for his work on @alwayslunes
