World Bank endorses Milei economic reforms in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES.- He Government of Argentina announced the definitive “closure” of the old Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversities, under the argument that the previous administration used it “for political-partisan purposes, to propagate and impose an ideological agenda, hire militants and organize talks and events.”

The actual president, Javier Milei, He repeatedly attacked this type of institutions and, in fact, one of the main axes of his mandate is to reduce the size of the public Administration; “reduce the size of the state”as the Ministry of Justice now explains in a statement.

In its attempt to also remove “politicized organizations”, the Women’s Ministry It became the rank of undersecretary within Justice last December, but now its “definitive elimination” has been carried out. According to the Government, there was an “overlap” of powers and an expense that was impossible to justify.

“Money that the Argentine State does not have enough,” indicated the Ministry of Justice in its note, where it assures that the previous structure had more than 800 employees.

Furthermore, the Milei Government alleged that “none of their actions resulted in a reduction in the crime rate,” but, “on the contrary, the Argentine people witnessed their ideological bias in the discriminatory defense of the victims.”

According to the National Registry of Femicide of the South American country, murders increased by 10.6 percent in 2023, to a total of 250 direct victims, the Supreme Court reported last week. The figure was close to the peak recorded in 2019, when there were 260 victims.
