Mini will launch a limited series of its Cooper SE Cabrio. It will be sold for more than 60,000 euros.

The Mini Cooper SE Cabrio clearly plays the card of luxury and exclusivity. This ultra-trendy version of the Cooper SE released in 2020 will cost the modest sum of 60,490 euros, almost twice as much as the classic version, once the ecological bonus has been applied. The first four-seater convertible in the world is therefore a Mini, but the price choice of the British manufacturer (owned by BMW) is enough to put buyers off. How is it explained?

Mini Cooper SE Convertible

The main reason for this positioning lies in the small number of vehicles that will be produced. The Mini Cooper SE Cabrio is not a vehicle that the brand had planned in its catalog, at least not at this precise moment. Indeed, this new version comes just eight months after the presentation of the “One of” concept, in response to the very warm welcome it received. On this “cabrio” Mini version will therefore play the card of the limited series. Only 999 copies of the electric chip will be produced, including 155 reserved for France. Therefore, the price of this model no longer obeys conventional standards.

Nothing more, one roof less

The Mini Cooper SE Cabrio takes the dimensions of the thermal version (3.86 meters long) but retains the same technical basis on the electric version. We therefore find the same powertrain consisting of a 184 hp electric motor and a (very small) 28.9 kWh battery. Autonomy (WLTP) drops to 201 km (against 231 km for the capped version), which is one of the lowest values on electric vehicles released in the last two years. As you will have understood, the Mini does not really intend to shine in terms of value for money. Because even if this exclusive version takes up the highest level of finish of the traditional Cooper SE as well as all its options, the fact remains that it does not offer anything new, except the “cabrio” style. » and a nice mention « 1 of 999 », which should make his rating soar. Its rare future owners will still be delighted to learn that its soft top opens and folds in just 18 seconds and that up to 30 km/h.

Despite its prohibitive price, the Mini Cooper SE Cabrio risks benefiting from a very favorable situation. It is almost alone in its segment, since apart from the Fiat 500 Cabrio and a certain Tesla Roadster, it has no competition.
