After the 15-year-old’s assault on Luna last summer a petition has been started to introduce a new care law, a lex Luna. The 15-year-old was reported to the police in 2021 for attempted assault on a woman outdoors and the case was handed over to social services, but never came to the attention of the school.

A lex Luna would mean an easing of confidentiality between schools and authorities such as the police and social services, to facilitate information sharing. Over 14,000 people have signed the petition for a change in the law.

Priority issue for the government

According to Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M), this is a priority issue for the government. Two investigations are currently underway, the results of which will be reported in March and October next year, respectively.

– But the new government does not think that these sufficiently capture today’s problems. We will therefore soon tighten the directives for one of the investigations so that, for example, schools and social services will be obliged to share information with the police to prevent crime. This case really shows the need that many of us have raised for several years – that the secrecy between authorities must be reviewed, he writes in an email to SVT.
