It is the American R’Bonney Gabriel who was elected Miss Universe last night in New Orleans. The French Floriane Bascou, first runner-up to Miss France 2022, did not make it to the top 16.

R’Bonney Gabriel, Miss United States, becomes Miss Universe. She was elected last night in New Orleans, Louisiana. Floriane Bascou, first runner-up to Diane Leyre, who represented France, was unfortunately not selected in the top 16.

The French faced 86 competitors from all over the world, during the 71st edition of the competition.

The last Frenchwoman to have won the title of Miss Universe in Iris Mittenaere in the Philippines. That was in 2016. Last year, while Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu was crowned Miss Universe in Israel, Frenchwoman Clémence Botino made it into the top 10, finishing in ninth place.

Clémence Botino will also represent France in the Miss World contest, in a few months. Due to lack of time, Diane Leyre, Miss France 2022 could not attend any of these competitions. She gave up her crown last December to Miss Guadeloupe, Indira Ampiot.
