The war in Ukraine, the associated energy and price crisis or the climate change – there are many reasons that make switching to an environmentally friendly and cost-saving heating system lucrative. As recently as 2022, the traffic light coalition had launched an electricity and gas price brake for all citizens. It has also been clear since December: Consumers with an oil or pellet heating system will also receive a grant in 2023 for orders placed in 2022.

Subsidy for heating: Pellet and heating oil customers should be relieved retrospectively

The relief for all electricity and gas customers comes automatically – that means: The consumers do not have to take action themselves. It looks different fuel oil or wood pellets. The subsidy for heating oil or pellets must be applied for. The federal government is providing 1.8 billion euros for this – the federal states are responsible for distribution. According to information from Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection there are investment grants for fuel cell technology with up to 40 percent of the eligible costs – but a maximum of 34,300 euros per fuel cell. The basic amount of Financial support amounts to 6,800 euros. This is supplemented by a performance-related amount of 550 euros for each 100 watts of electrical power or part thereof. But the truth is also true: Despite funding, heating systems with fuel cell technology are expensive.

For private households in particular, the technology is a major investment that, despite rising electricity prices, will only pay off over the course of many years.
