ALGER – Traffic jams (or traffic, as we prefer to say) represent a daily ordeal for the inhabitants of the big cities in Algeria. But in the capital, Algiers, the phenomenon is reaching intolerable proportions!

In order to remedy this problem, several solutions have already been put in place: traffic plan, new roads, tramway, metro… However, none of these has been able to solve it at the root. This is why the local authorities are considering new infrastructures capable of relieving congestion in the capital and improving the mobility of citizens.

In this wake, an innovative idea returns with insistence among experts in uranism; that of equipping Algiers with the guided transport system: the monorail. It was the Minister of the Interior himself who mentioned this alternative last Tuesday, during a meeting with the national press.

Brahim Merad talks about the Algiers monorail project

During a visit he made to Algiers this Tuesday, April 18, 2023, the Minister of the Interior, Brahim Merad, addressed the problem of traffic jams.

Among the multitude of solutions proposed, in particular, the monorail was discussed. According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), “monorail is a mass transit system that consists of vehicles supported and guided by a single guideway (rail or beam)”.

In this regard, the Minister of the Interior said that the project was still at the idea stage. However, he said that if the latter were to materialize, the first monorail line would connect the Maritime Pines (Palais des expositions, SAFEX) in Zéralda.

Subsequently, the ministry’s services broadcast a demonstration video of the project to the journalists present. This shows a typical monorail service. The public transport vehicle passes through several districts of the capital, like Ruisseau and Ben Aknoun.

And icing on the cake, thanks to the large windows available on the monorail, users will be able to take advantage of their trip to contemplate, with a view from above, the main attractions of the capital. We leave you with the demonstration video…
