Detention in Colombia

Meanwhile, in Colombia, authorities reported this week the arrest of Venezuelan Yonayke Martínez Carrion, alias “Ojitos”, who is wanted by his country for crimes such as extortion, arms trafficking and criminal association, and who would belong to the Aragua Train.

Martínez Carrion was detained in Belén, a small municipality in the center of Colombiawhere he had taken refuge and pretended to be a barber to evade the authorities, the Colombian police detailed in a statement.

The Colombian authorities are waiting for the diplomatic procedures on the part of Venezuela to issue the arrest warrant for extradition purposes against Martínez Carrion, who was wanted with a red Interpol circular, which notifies the police of the world about people who are fugitives from justice. , for allegedly incinerating the vehicle of a police officer in March 2024 “in a revenge action” against the agent.

Three years earlier, the uniformed man had captured him in Venezuela for the crimes of attempted homicide, kidnapping and extortion, the report added.

In Colombia, Martínez Carrion would have tried to continue committing crimes with the Tren de Aragua, according to the police. “It was being projected by the organization to be in charge of mobilizing resources and people to establish new criminal cells in Colombia and establish links with existing Colombian criminal organizations,” he indicated.

Colombian authorities have warned of the presence of the Aragua Train in the country, especially in Bogotá, where the Ombudsman’s Office warned in February that the criminal gang would be disputing social, territorial and criminal income control with other local gangs. In addition to allegedly extorting merchants and controlling human trafficking.
